ios 11 causing facetime malfunction

After I upgraded to ios11 I have tried multiple times to use facetime and have had the following issues.

1) When I try to call using facetime the call goes through and then the controls disappear (ex the red end call button, live photo button are not at the bottom of the screen). When I touch the screen they do not return. The home button does not take me back to the home screen at this time either. So, if I call someone I must turn off my ipad to end the call.

2) If someone calls me on facetime I can answer the call. The controls are available (ie hang up, live photo) but they do not work. When I click on hang up, the call does not end. If I minimize the call during this time the small screen within screen box appears, but it is completely black which means I cannot the see the person I am facetiming. At this point the buttons still do not work, so I cannot hang up the call and I cannot make the call full screen again. If the other party ends the call, I am left with the small black screen (screen within screen box). Again, I must restart my ipad to remove the screen or end the call.

I have tried restarting my ipad 3 times with no change. I have tried "reset all settings" with no change as well. How do I regain functionality of facetime on my ipad or must I uninstall ios 11 and downgrade?
