MS office files get corrupted

Hi,

I am trying to copy over all my MS office files from my PC to MAC via a Thumbdrive. The files are fine when I try to open them straight from my Thumbdrive when it is inserted into MAC. But, if I try to copy over the files to my MAC and then open them, they get corrupted. All file names are appended by ~$<file_name> and when I try to open them, I get this message:

PowerPoint found a problem with content in the file ~$BGP-MVPN.pptx. PowerPoint can attempt to repair the file. If you trust the source of this file, click Repair.

When I click Repair, I get the following message:

PowerPoint found a problem with content in the file ~$BGP-MVPN.pptx. PowerPoint can attempt to repair the file. If you trust the source of this file, click Repair.

Any help would be appreciated much. Thanks!

Use the Finder to GetInfo on the thumb-drive icon.

What format is the thumb drive? {NTFS, ExFAT, FAT-32, FAT-16, Mac HFS+, other}
