How to move program icons which look like disc ...

Some programs I have installed, not from App Store, have left what looks like a disc type icon on the desktop, beneath the Disc icons. I presume they are something to do with the program. There is no icon in Launcher for the program.

How can I put an icon into Launcher for these programs and remove the desktop icons, which are just grey  and look like disc icons, without deleting the program itself?

Im new to iMac and have a brand new one using OS Sierra

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Most software not from the App store is distributed on a Disk Image. That is just a file that mounts like a Disk, looks like a Disk, and acts like a Disk.

So, you remove those "Disks" just like you would any other, Eject them.

I am sure it is quite obvious, but to eject the Disk Image right click on Disk Image and select Eject.

Normally these disk images would be unmounted when you shut down unless you have the box labeled "Reopen windows when logging back in" checked. You can get to this window by clicking Shutdown.

Also you can put a program on the dock by right clicking on it and selecting Add to Dock.
