Backing Up iPhone 7

I'm trying to backup my iPhone 7 because it hasn't been backed up in months. Everytime I try to back it up, I get a pop up that says "iTunes could not back up the iPhone because not enough free space is available on this computer. So, I deleted some stuff and I even restarted my laptop but the pop up didn't come up, it just said "Waiting for changes to be applied" and now it's back to giving that pop up.

1. What is the amount of free space that I need to have on my laptop?

2. Is there someway to finally backup my iPhone?

fyi, I have iTunes 12.7
