Unlock with Apple Watch Not Working

Hello,

I am running a mid-2013 MacBook Air with macOS Sierra, with a 2nd Gen Apple Watch running watchOS3. I am on the same Apple ID for my Air, Watch, and iPhone (6S).

But, unlock with Apple Watch is not working on my Air. I have enabled 2 Factor Authentication. I have checked the box that enables unlock with Apple Watch. Everything seems to be kosher.

When I close and reopen my Air, "Unlocking with Apple Watch" appears for about 10 seconds, then I have to enter my password.

Help? Thanks!

I was having a similar issue on a late 2013 MBP. I restarted my phone, watch, and laptop (in that order, if that helps) and after having to initially sign into my laptop manually (after the restart), unlock with Apple Watch started working for me.

I have this Problem too. I have 2 Accounts on my Macbook. One is the First Account that i don't use, second my Regular Account. On my Second Account its the same Problem, but with the Admin Account...it Works.

I don´t know why.

Do you use also two Accounts?

If you haven't already, restart your Mac, iPhone and Apple Watch, then re-test.

Thank you! This solved the problem. I had reset everything (all at once) and it didn't work. I reset in your order and it now works.

I have an Early 2013 MBP and under Security and Pricacy I don't have the option listed to unlock with apple watch????

I have under Settings, General, Allow Handoff between this MAC and ICloud services marked and I have two-factor authentication activated.

I've rebooted my phone, watch and MPB in the order but still don't have the option in my Security menu. Am I missing something?

Thanks

Early 2013 MacBook Pro does not support Apple Watch to unlock. Requires mid 2013 or newer.

I think your problem is WiFi card. On 2012 and early 2013 models the card is not 802.11 AC.

Yesterday I've swapped radio cards between my 2014 Mac Mini and my mid 2012 rMBP to have the unlock feature appering. It works perfectly and i can unlock the macbook using the watch.

Is it possible to purchase wifi upgrade card?

Sure, look for BCM94360CSAX

Thanks, solved for iMac (27" Retina 5K Late 2015) too.

Where?

Just google for it. It's available on amazon, ebay, various sites...

I have three Macs all running MacOS Sierra. On two of the three, Watch successfully unlocks, but on the third, it won't unlock saying that the watch, which is on my wrist, is too far away to unlock the computer.

Tried this but it doesn't work for me (iPhone 6, Apple Watch 1, MB Air Mid 2013).
