Graphic card issue

I've 27" Mac, white screen. Called apple support was told to take to store (unable to determine issue, all alternatives didn't work and supervisor's @ apple would come to phone). At store was give price for possible issue ($194.00) and repair would only take one to three days, well need less to say it took one week (no calls from store regarding issue) only to be told its the graphic card and @ a cost of almost $600.00 dollars. Today, I'm reading a post from 2013 that apple knew that this model had issues and never notified anyone. Does any one have suggestion for cheaper cost, issue and how it was resolved?
