Unable to access email on iCloud acct
Recently I have been receiving error msgs when trying to access my email using both Outlook and Thunderbird.
First msg is "Login to server imap.me.com failed." After several tries of reentering PW I get a further msg that the server disconnected...server may have gone down...network problem. Using a browser, however, I can log on to iCloud mail using the same UN and PW that I have in my email programs. Could there be a problem with double verification?

Thank you. I do not have it turned on but I can access account w/o problems from my iPhone.
R u saying that in order for thunderbird to access my email on iCloud I have to turn on 2-v?

Yes -- using app-specific passwords is a new requirement from Apple if you want to access iCloud services from a 3rd party app like Thunderbird and to use an app-specific password you need to have two-factor authentication or the older two-step verification turned on for your Apple ID.

sorry i'm very confuse and frustrated with this situation ,i dont know what to do,apple is a terrible with a costumers just try to switch the people with android to apple,..Fox help me please the instructions are very hard for people and a level 1,look i ready have the F.AUTH...On,but i need to see my email in my phone,thks
If you have two-factor authentication turned on for your Apple ID, the next step is to do the following (as described in Using app-specific passwords - Apple Support):
Generate an app-specific password
- Sign in to your Apple ID account page.
- In the Security section, click Generate Password below App-Specific Passwords.
- Follow the steps on your screen.
After you generate your app-specific password, enter or paste it into the password field of the app as you would normally.
Once you have obtained the password you will then need to use it to replace the password that you are currently using for iCloud email in the email app in your Android device. I can't help with that -- you may need to go to Samsung help or support if you don't know how to change an email password in their devices.

Rather than destroying an Android phone because you hate Apple, you may want to consider keeping the phone you have and switching to an email service other than iCloud (e.g., gmail, etc).
my problem IS WITH MY ANDROID PHONE,,not the PC
me again mister fox,,i have my email from apple for 10y or more,i have a gmail account but my costumers have the icloud account not the gamail,i dont know what to do i need my mac email in my android,i have the F.AUTH ON,i ready remove the apple email from my android device but when try to add the account all the time show me the same error,im very frustrated fox is very important for me fix this situation,thank you very much for spend time to try to help me,i call to samung,tmobil and apple and nobody know what to do with this situation
Additional info. I was able to paste the code into Thunderbird's email settings for my iCloud acct but could not do the same for outlook. On the first page of the settings it calls for info including UN an PW. Neither my Apple acct PW nor the 2-stage verification will work.
Any insight? Should I uninstall Outlook and choose one if the other setups than Outlook 365 client?

In addition to turning two-factor authentication on you also need to use an app-specific password (instead of your normal Apple ID password) when you setup your iCloud email on your Android device. Your post doesn't mention whether you are doing that or not. See the following for instructions on how to obtain an app-specific password: Using app-specific passwords - Apple Support

Are you using two different app-specific passwords (one for Thunderbird and a different one for Outlook)? That is a requirement (i.e., one app-specific password per app). You generate the second one the same way as the first one. Using app-specific passwords - Apple Support
