Firmware password for one

My Mac(s) were locked due to an iCloud hack with a firmware password for one-time use. The Apple Service Provider will fix it but told me all my data would be lost... Is this correct ?

it is very simple to do, when you get the computer back. You can boot into the Recovery Partition (Command +R) and restore from Time Machine there.

Likely yes, however if you have been backing up your computer then that should be of no concern. If you have not been backing up you are about to learn a lesson about why backing up is critical with ANY computer. If you have been using Time Machine and you know it's in good shape or you have a bootable clone of the computer then don't worry about it.

Yes, I am using Time Machine with a Time Capsule. Never did a full restore though...

Thanks for your reply !

Thanks ! (800 GB ;-)

What puzzles me: what has a reset of a one-time password to do with my data ?

I recommend discussing that with your AASP for clarification.

FYI: I got my computers back: all the data was intact ... :-)
