wrong itunes country for an app I need but cant...

I'm living in the UK for 8 months, there are apps I need for living that I can't get on my Australian App Store. But I can't change my App Store because I don't have a British bank card. I was advised by the technician on the phone to create a new App Store ID, and buy a gift card...so I can download the FREE APP I NEED. I am furious that Apple has apparently only just changed its rules, because I already DID change stores downloaded a useful app, went back to my Australian store, and now when I need to update it I can't.
