iMessage Problems with macOS Sierra Update

Before I updated my Mac to the macOS Sierra (10.12.1) update my iMessage worked perfectly fine.  I was able to text people with both android and apple devices without a problem from my Mac.

After the update, though, the people with android devices had their contact names turn red and when I try to send a message it says that it did not delivered.  For the contacts that are apple devices, I am able to send and receive iMessages from my Mac, but it doesn't sync with my iPhone any more.  When I say this I mean that the messages I send from my Mac don't show up on my iPhone and messages I said on my phone don't show up on my Mac.

I've checked my Messages preferences, and my "enable this account" button is clicked on.  When I two-finger click the Message icon in the Dock it says "My status: Offline".  I don't know how to change this or if this is even the problem.

Any suggestions would be so helpful! Thank you!

Hi jdneri2745!

I see that you're having issues with your SMS and iMessages not working on your Mac, and I'm happy to help. If your messaging no long appears to be working across your devices, you may want to double-check that your iPhone phone number and Apple ID are correctly associated, and that your phone number and all available email addresses are set up correctly in Messages on both your iPhone and Mac. You may find this article helpful:

Add or remove your phone number in Messages or FaceTime - Apple Support

You may also want to check the Continuity SMS/MMS settings, as outlined in this support article:

Use Continuity to connect your Mac, iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Apple Watch

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

Cheers!

I have the same problem.  Went though all your recommendations and I still cannot get imessage to work on my MacBook Air running lasted version of Sierra.  I can message across all my iOS devices (iphone 5, iphone 6, iPad) but not my OSX.  Note I can log into iCloud in preferences from my Mac without a problem, but when I try to log into imessage or face time i get error message saying my username and password are incorrect, even though they are.

Having the same problem here.  Any resolution?

Also, along with this mess, when I first tried to log into my user after the update, my password wouldn't work. Then realized that Apple updated my normal user password to my Apple ID password.  About gave me a heart attack when I tried logging in umpteen times before figuring out what they did...  DANG IT!!!

I had this problem and was just able to fix it. Hopefully this works for you too!

-Log out of Messages App on your Mac

-Go into iPhone Settings-Messages-Text Message Forwarding - Uncheck your Mac

-(I don't know if this also helped, but I originally had only my phone number selected for Messages receive/send, but added my email address on both my Mac and my iPhone again. Just something else to try if it doesn't work)

-Quit settings

-Log back into your Mac Messages App

-Go back into iPhone Settings -Messages-Text Message Forwarding - Check your mac

Gave it some time and it started working. Let me know if it works! Fingers crossed!

This worked for me after trying everything else! Thank you!

Wow...thanks for the information as this method finally worked!...

I'm having this same issue - have tried everything suggested in this post with no luck. Has anyone found another solution?

Update: I went through Brad6788 steps a second time and this time it worked. Thank you!

Hi I have a similar issue. My phone and MacBook are not connected tho, so I am unsure what to do. Messages aren't sending from my mac nor is FaceTime working.
