Watch Series 3 email problem

Just received Watch Series 3 on Friday and all is good except one issue. I use gmail for my work email.  I have it setup to sync to my watch. I noticed when I delete/archive messages using gmail mail client on my macbook, the some messages are not being removed from my list of messages on my watch. Some are, some aren't and I can't find a rhyme or reason.

When I first noticed this on Friday, I unchecked my work email inbox from the Watch app on iOS. Then I rechecked it. This forced the watch to resync with gmail and it worked. All messages looked consistent across gmail and my watch.

However, the problem is happening again today. I delete messages from my mac when logged into gmail.com but my watch still has those messages listed.

Anyone else seeing this? Any suggestions?
