Running out of space on my iPad and iPhone ... ...

Running out of space on my iPad and iPhone ... would love to move all my photos and videos to iCloud so I can free up space on my device and keep iCloud Photo Library to a minimum. Anyone had success doing this?

iCloud Photo Library is a syncing/sharing service, not an archival one. If you want to move your photos and videos to a safe place so that you can then remove them from your device, then your best bet would be to do one of the following:

1.     Import your photos from your devices to your computer (do not turn on iCloud Photo Library on the devices), and then use iTunes to sync back the photos you want to keep on your devices (or, if you don't want to keep any, then do the import, then delete them from the devices).

2.     Upload your photos to an archival cloud service like Dropbox, Flikr, Amazon or Google cloud, etc. Once they have been uploaded, then you can delete them from the devices.
