iPad begins starting up then shuts down again?

I had to completely shut down my iPad Air 2 - long pressing the home and sleep button - and when I start it up, it starts up as normal with the white screen and black apple symbol, stays like that for a couple of minutes, then completely shuts off again. I waited overnight and let it charge and tried it in the morning but it's still doing it. Before this it had a serious problem with the storage being full and it was glitching because of that but it has never done this before. I have three years worth on work on my iPad and I haven't backed everything up, only what's on iCloud. I would like to get it back without erasing everything, so if someone could help me and also tell me what exactly iCloud actually stores when it backs up, that would be fantastic!

Let's discuss this sentence:

This may mean:

  • I store some data in iCloud (e.g., Calendar, Notes).  I never back anything up.
  • I may occasionally perform automatic iCloud backups.  But I don't back anything up explicitly.

But then you say:

So this seems to be discussing iCloud backups, to which the answer is:

What does iCloud back up? - Apple Support

So there is a huge, tremendous difference between a backup stored in iCloud and actual data stored in iCloud.
