Put copy itunes playlist onto iphone

how do I drop a playlist made in itunes onto my iphone?  I have the latest version of itunes.  I try to drop a playlist onto the iphone (plugged in w/ lightning cable and listed under devices) but it doesn't do anything. I get so frustrated using itunes for windows.  It's never simple like it should be with apple.
