Unable to connect router on wifi channel 165 (5...

I have my wifi router channel selection set to AUTO, and I have noticed that when the router selects channel 165, I cannot connect from my macbook (early 2015 version) running macos 10.12.6. I have also tested this by manually selecting channel 165 on the router with the same result. Is this a known issue with macbooks?

I don't know if it is a problem to that specific channel.

Apple products respect the country-specific limitations on  WiFi frequency usage. When you turn on WiFi, it searches for a "beacon" code that tells it what country it is in. If either you or a neighbor has a router that is broadcasting an incorrect beacon code, it may prevent the Apple device from being able to connect on certain frequencies.

It has nothing to do with your router necessarily. The first beacon code it receives it will use. It doesn't necessarily use the beacon code of the router it is trying to connect to. However, channel 165 seems to be available in US, Canada, Europe, and Russia, but not Japan.

Is there any way to see which beacon code the macbook is using, i.e. which country it believes it's in?

Yes, go >> About this Mac >> System Report >> scroll down to Network >> Wifi and check whatever name your wifi signal is coming from.  Example mine >> Current Network Information:BELL509:  PHY Mode: 802.11n  BSSID: 44:e9:dd:43:fb:19  Channel: 161,-1  Country Code: CA  ( Canada ) Network Type: Infrastructure  Security: WPA2 Personal  Signal / Noise: -40 dBm / -92 dBm  Transmit Rate: 405

  MCS Index: 23

You can also just hold down the option key, then click on the WiFi status menu icon.
