Logic Pro X Lag

I own a mid 2010 8-core Mac Pro and it has the latest version of Mountain Lion running on it. I ran logic 9 on this machine and I experience serious GUI lag in logic 9 when working with EQ, Analyzers or metering (logics built in plugs).

I then hoped and prayed that Logic Pro X would improve this and take away the lag and it did..... Up to a point.

At first I was overjoyed, thinking apple has finally given us a new logic that would work as well as it use to on snow leopard. But then I really started working logic x, producing & mixing on songs that are quite heavy duty.

The processors don't really break a sweat and the harddrive doesn't really do too much hard work but when I run melodyne and process vocals the lag inside the melodyne just becomes unworkable. There seems to be a delayed reaction coming from the GUI and sometimes just doesn't respond instantly, this is a deal breaker for me as I do loads of work with logic and melodyne all the time in my projects and this seemed to be too hard for the whole thing to handle.

Then there's the occasional clicks and pops when u flick between channels. Quite random and also almost like there's a buffer setting issue, like its set too small and logic wants to choak because of it..... Yet the processors and harddrive aren't even halfway up on the performance meter and the buffer setting isn't anything new for logic (256).

How can this be happening on a 8-core Mac Pro mid 2010 with 10gig ram and 1 gig video ram??!!?!?

I am devastated.

Is anyone else experiencing this with Logic Pro x and melodyne specifically?

No one else having this issue?

I don't think the crop of new users have gotten as far as adding an audio track, from what I can tell there are only a handfull of "power" users left here.

Thx pancentre. I recall owning a 2007 Mac Pro and being able to run 3 different operating system from apple with no problem.... I think it was leopard, tiger and then snow leopard. Nowadays it seems apple

Is intent on destroying all you performance on a machine that barely 2 years old.... *** is going on?!

That's pretty much why I've settled on Snow Leopard and Logic 9 for the foreseeable future, it's fast and it's stable... I've spent quite a bit of time tweaking the OS to my satisfaction and there's no reason messing with a good thing, I mainly record audio, rarely use loops so what's the point?

I use to have quite a few clients (both PC and Mac) who's machines I kept in shape using various DAWs and operating systems. I've had a chance to play with Logic 10 a bit (on a client's machine), what I notice most is the newer operating systems feel top heavy, you need a lot of power to equal the speed and smoothness of my Snow Leopard machine.

Good luck, I hope an update cures the problems you're seeing.

This is exactly what makes me so ANGRY at apple.... Don't tell us the system requirements are able to handle something and forget to mention that you probably gonna experience lag on older machines. And why are they top heavy? We don't want that... We just wanna be able to work as professionals effectively. How much power do I need exactly then? Geewhizz, what must it be a 12 core? 2012 or something?

I have the same issue with my 12core Mac 2010. Normally working with 24 processing threads. When working with melodyne I reduce  the processing threads to 12. That helps.

Late 2009 iMac here (with Logic Pro X 10.3.2 and Mac OS 10.13). Only the File menu was laggy (3 second delay). Removed/uninstalled Gobbler. No more lag!

Thank you sir. This worked for me too, about the file menu lag + gobbler.

But, still very laggy if trying to add third party plugins from FabFilter, Waves, iZotope, UA etc etc.. :/
They work great in Studio One Pro 3.5.2
