Finder Freezing When Clicking into the Download...

I have a 2015 13' Macbook Pro Retina Display (256GB, 8GB RAM), currently using MacOS Sierra v. 10.12.6- It all works swiftly and quickly and has never given me issues. recently whenever I go into the 'Downloads" folder in finder the whole Finder App freezes. This does not happen when I click on any other folder in finder. Is this due to a corrupt file in 'Downloads' or is something else causing this? (I have tried utility apps such as Disk Utility, Disk Doctor and Dr. Cleaner. Still no change. Any assistance would be of help.
