Moving files on MacBook pro 2016

How does one select and moves files from one folder to another?  I am having a heck of a time selecting and moving files.

Select the files you want to move, press "command +C", navigate to where you want them, press "command + option + V".

You may want to reply with more details on what you have tried and what is happening.

You can select a folder or files by clicking on it (use the shift key to select multiple contiguous files or the command key for multiple non-contiguous ones) and then drag it to where you want; I find that easiest if the destination is in the Finder sidebar or if I open a second Finder window with the destination folder. well the "normal" drag and drop feature does not work for a fact and it is really inconvenient. Neither does the command+C and command+opt+V.... I almost wish I could redefine mouse pad feature
