MacBook Pro 2017 overheating in bag

Hi - I have a MacBook Pro 2017 and today I experienced it overheating in my bag, closed but not shut down. I think it might have been because of the bluetooth keyboard that I also transported, but have anyone experienced this or something similar?

I'm guessing that it is extremely bad for the battery and such, so I would really like to avoid this happening again..
