For about a couple of months I've been unable to get my Mac e-mail account to work in Outlook 2011 for Mac. This seems to have happened around the time two-factor authentication was introduced.

I have two-factor authentication enabled and have generated an App specific password for Outlook but this has not solved the problem.

I'm wondering whether the mail server setting for Outlook changed at the same time two-factor authentication was introduced.

Depending on where you search on the internet, the setting seem slightly different. On the Apple web site I've found some settings but the page simply states iCloud and doesn't explain if the server settings differ if you're using a mac.com, me.com or icloud.com address. Microsoft give slightly different incoming and outgoing server addresses for each type of account. There are other differences between the Apple and Microsoft web pages: Microsoft don't mention Authentication (More Options... on the Account the set up pane), whereas Apple say it should be Username and Password...however they say the Username should be the full e-mail address rather than the address before the @, which they say to use in the Server set up.

Here is what I've tried

Server Information

User name: [bit before the@] also tried [full e-mail address]

Password: [Apple ID page generated two-factor authentication password]

Incoming server: mail.mac.com also tried imap.mail.me.com

Override default port: 993

Use SSL: [yes]

Always use secure password: [blank]

Outgoing server: smtp.mac.com also tried smtp.mail.me.com

Override default port: 587

Use SSL: [yes]

More Options...

Authentication: User Name and Password

User name: [full e-mail address]

Password: [Apple ID page generated two-factor authentication password]

Could anyone suggest any glaring errors or alternate settings.

Many thanks
