Do the new MacBook Pros have enought memory to run Revit?
Minimum requirement (under Boot Camp) is 4gb of RAM. Check how much you have under the Apple Menu > About this Mac.
Thanks. I was probably not specific enough in my question. I'll rephrase the question... "Has anyone experienced any problems using Revit and the following hardware/software configurations?":
Parallels 7
OS: Windows 7
Hardware: MacBook Pro (other info as per below)
15-inch: 2.6 GHz Retina display
- 2.6GHz quad-core Intel Core i7
- Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz
- 8GB 1600MHz memory
- 512GB flash storage1
- Intel HD Graphics 4000
- NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of GDDR5 memory
thanks
You shouldn't have any problems - you have enough RAM and flash storage to run Revit under Boot Camp or, if you wish, a virtual machine such as Parallels (I'm a big Parallels fan - runs fine on Mountain Lion).
The only way to see if you'll have any problems is to give it a go. If you want to try a vm, both Parallels Desktop and VMFusion have 14-day and 30-day free trial, respectively. You might want to try run of them before configuring Boot Camp.
Good luck,
Clinton
Thanks Clinton.
I'm actually deciding whether to purchase the MacBook Pro (15-inch: 2.6 GHz Retina display, 2.6GHz quad-core Intel Core i7) or a PC laptop.
I currently own a 2009 MacBook Pro (which is fine for my current needs as a graphic designer) but as I'm just commencing Interior Design studies (using Revit) I need to invest in hardware that will run Revit optimally.
So it's very difficult to know if I should be purchasing a PC or a Mac.
thanks
Will 16GB be 'nuff? That's how much you can stuff in the regular MBPs. Or you can really murder the piggybank and order the big fat Retina with that amount. It will still be cheaper than the littlest Revit setup. From what it's supposed to do, I get the feeling you'll be needing processing power more than raw memory, unless you want to model the entire city of New York. Focus more on processor capabilities, GPU & CPU.
So, for example would you preference 2.7GHz with 8GB of RAM over 2.3GHz with 16GB RAM?
If those were your only choices.
Thanks!
