MacBook Pro fails to install new OS (HELP!!)

This **** thing has been getting on my nerves since I started this endeavor two days ago!! I have an A1286 and the OS isn't good at all. I downloaded Mavericks, made the bootable USB and still nothing at all. Each time the computer attempts to verify the download I get an error that says it's failed and to restart the application. I'll restart it and still no luck as it comes back with the same error...

SO! I completely wiped the HD and did the "long" erase that took a day and a half to complete thinking that would help, and it didn't either. 

The computer doesn't see the USB drive when I do the Command +R either which is leading me to believe it needs to go back to an apple store or somewhere that can fix the **** thing!!! I'm open to any suggestions y'all might have to get this thing to work! I need a laptop for my wrecker when I'm out and about and came across this one for next to nothing. 

What is an A1286? Need to know the Model ID: To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities' folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right. Would look something like this: Model Identifier 3,1.

What version of OS X are you trying to install? In order to start from your USB stick you need to do this:

Boot Using OPTION key

1. Restart the computer.
2. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the  "OPTION" key.
3. Release the key when the Boot Manager screen appears.
4. Select the disk icon from which you want to boot.
5. Click on the arrow button below the icon.

Did this used computer come with any software restore DVDs?
