my iMac is dead. How can I delete the data.
My iMac does not work. A grey screen appears.
Can I delete the data?
You have 2 choices.
1. Use Target Disk Mode if you have another Mac: (This will effectively make it into a connected hard drive)
Use target disk mode to share files between two Mac computers - Apple Support
2. Remove the hard drive and put it in an enclosure. (You'll also need another Mac to boot from)
What year model is it and are you recycling or selling it?
If your recycling it, remove the Hard Drive and save or smash it with a hammer.
If your selling it, you have a couple of options,
1. Access the Hard Drive from another Mac, reformat and overwrite the Hard Drive.
Use your iMac as a display with Target Display Mode - Apple Support
2. Remove and/or replace the Hard Drive.
