WatcOS 4 Core Bluetooth and Dexcom CGM

I recently upgraded my Apple Series 2 watch to WatchOS 4. I have a Dexcom CGM which SHOULD now continue to work without the iPhone due to Core Bluetooth, but when I turn off bluetooth on my iPhone I no longer receive Dexcom blood sugar results on my watch. Does anyone know why this is happening?
