Newer iPad, older iOS

My wife has an iPad 2, I believe. It has iOS 9 on it. I'm going to be buying an iPad Pro, and will be giving her my iPad Air which has iOS 11 on it.  She has games on hers that she wants to still be able to play. I have no idea if those games will be playable on iOS 10 or 11.

So I will back up her current iPad 2 to the cloud, erase my iPad Air, and restore the iPad Air from her back up.  Will the iPad Air restore with iOS 9 on it?
