Separating iCloud Drive folders/files by device

I have two devices. My work computer and my home computer.

Currently, when I set up iCloud Drive on these devices, ALL the documents are loaded on BOTH devices.

I don't want this. I don't want my home documents on my work device and vice versa.

I'd like to have my iCloud drive sync only home documents on my home computer and my work documents on my work computer.

Is there a method to resolve this, i.e. perhaps define which folder/s sync with which device?

Furthermore, is there an option to only keep the files on iCloud and not on any device, i.e. deselect not to have specific folders sync on any device. The purpose is to keep a backup but not use the space on the device.
