Down arrow key working improperly

Hei all,

I'm facing a problem with the keyboard on my Late 2011 15” MBP.

It's as if the 'down' arrow is pressed and held.

So, when I open any folder in finder, the file/folder selection moves down automatically. See video here.

If I start typing in Google, the search suggestions that appear are automatically scrolled through.

In any text editor, I'm unable to move the cursor to any of the previous lines/ words as the cursor is moved to the end of last line automatically. See video here.

Strangely, the down arrow doesn't work at all sometimes. See video here.

Yesterday, the down arrow didn’t work at all.

NVRAM & SMC were reset, but no improvement. Didn’t check in Safe Mode.

This problem exists in Windows (installed via Bootcamp) and in new user within MacOS also.

I don't find it different from other keys while pressing.

What can be the reason for this problem and a possible solution?

Saw one discussion thread with a similar problem.

It says that this can be because of a bulge in the battery. Can this be the case?

I faced a similar problem some time ago. Then the problem was with ‘Shift’ key.

It was as if the ‘Shift’ key was pressed and held.

The machine used to boot in to ‘Safe mode’ directly, when booted. Or when I move the selection using arrow keys, all the files would get selected etc.

The service centre wasn’t of any use. They just ran the hardware test and said that there’s no problem. They refused to carry out any other test reg this problem.

The problem resolved itself automatically in a few days during which the MBP wasn’t turned on.

Can these two problems be related?
