can i add a second hard drive to my macbook pro

None of the current Model MBPs have a second Empty HDD bay, to upgrade you have to take out the original one or hang a USB/Firewire/thunderbolt external drive off it.

 

There is an interesting post (below) where a user actually removed the optical drive to make way for a second drive.. Not for the faint of heart though I'm afraid.

Absolutely. I just put a SSD in my new MBP. I removed the optical drive, moved the stock drive into the optical drive bay using an OWC DataDoubler kit and put the SSD drive in the main HD bay. The whole process took about a half hour and was real easy to do. Also, I picked up an external USB optical drive enclosure on eBay for $10.00 and put the optical drive in there. I plugged it into my USB port, stuck my install disc in it and it booted fine. Go for it!

I converted my 13" MBP to run double drives, I removed the optical drive and put an SSD in there as my boot drive. Works like a charm!

What is the model of your MBP?

 

If your MBP is a Uni-body MBP, you can't add a additional HDD, but you can replace the SuperDrive with the second hard drive (SATA interface, mounting rack for the second hard drive is strongly recommended). Of course, warranty maybe voided.

Looks like Mac Medic beat me to the punch and I'm glad to see OWC jumped into the mix with a solution. While I'm very pleased with my solution from MCE Tech, I'm a big fan of OWC products. I'd vote you give them your business.

I purchased a OWC DataDoubler kit with a 750GB hd and it works fine.  I just need to get a USB CD Drive for mac so if i need to reinstall my OS I can do it.

You could put your install disc on a USB Flash drive with Disk Utility. Also, here is the USB optical drive enclosure I bought. He raised the price a few bucks. Mine ran $10.00 with the shipping.

People.... where are you wasting your money buying from MCE and OWC? Just do a search on eBay and you'll find a CHEAP alternative. I bought my second hard drive caddy for just $16.Works just as fine... no difference in performance whatsoever. Unless you guys do have $80-$130 to blow.. and we're in the middle of a recession here..

eBay often ends up with vaporware.    And you have no recourse if you get something bad. With OWC and MCETech at least you have a warranty, and something that will last you at least a year.  One time I tried a bargain basement USB notebook sized drive from Dealmac, and the case was so fragile it broke when I removed it from the box.  That kind of shoddy construction only comes from dealing with the bottom of the barrel prices.  You get what you pay for.  Sure sometimes you luck out and get something cheap that lasts a long time, but by the time you spend money returning something, paying restocking fees, you have wasted time that you could have been using something.  Time is money too.

I say take the chance, especially if you're going to be saving (a lot of) money along the way. I've purchased not one but 2 cheap internal hard drive caddys off of eBay and both of them worked perfectly.

No, you cannot add a second hard drive onto your MacBook Pro.  However, you can add and external hard drove via USB, etc.

Did you have to install this in raid or is it possible to have two separate drives, one for windows and one for os?
