iMac detecting wrong TV size

macOS : Sierra 10.12.6

I have just upgraded my iMac 2011 to a 2017 model (21.5”) and am trying to connect it to the same LG UHD tv that the old Mac was attached to.

My tv is 49”. The 2011 Mac detected this correctly with my HDMI-thunderbolt 2 cable.

I have tried 4 different HDMI-USB C 4K cables with the 2017 iMac but none of them have correctly detected the size of the tv. One cable gave no signal at all, one told the iMac that the tv was 61” and both the other two cables told the iMac the tv was 72”.

I dont seem seem to be able to force the iMac to believe the TV is 49”.

Is it the cables or the iMac that is the problem?  It can’t be the tv as it was perfectly fine with the old iMac
