"Mail Upgrade"on Mac os Sierra

My mail app is stuck ever since upgrading to mac os sierra. Its stuck on "Mail Upgrade" window

It sounds like you're having problems accessing Mail on your Mac because it continues to try to upgrade. I know how important it is to have software working properly on your Mac, especially Mail, so I’m happy to help you get to the bottom of this. 

I would recommend following the troubleshooting steps listed in If Mail on your Mac keeps trying to upgrade your email library. The support article will say the steps are for El Capitan but no worries, the steps are still the same for macOS Sierra.

If you're still having problems or if anyone else finds this thread and wants an actual fix for this issue, with Mail.app closed go into the Finder and select Go To Folder… at the bottom of the Go menu. In the dialog box that appears, type

 

~/Library/Mail

 

and click the Go button. This will bring up a window that contains a file and 2 or 3 folders depending on how long you've been using MacOS Mail. The last folder in the list should be labeled "V4- Migrating." Select that folder and change its name to just "V4", then open Mail.app again. The Upgrade window will appear again and will look like it's starting the whole upgrade process over from the beginning, but it shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes (if it even takes that long) to verify the upgrade and optimize storage. If you have gmail accounts they may prompt you to re-enter your password but that's about it- you should have access to your mail again.

You're welcome! I'm glad I was able to help someone else despite having waited for so long to fix it myself- I imagine lots of people wiped out their local Mail libraries and just re-synced from IMAP, but for those of us with local archives from the era of POP, that's not a viable solution by any reckoning (and I find it troubling that the kbase doesn't warn that its method will effectively erase any mail not currently residing on remote IMAP servers).

Sorry I cannot say the same I when to the library but the name of my file was already V4, nothing to do there, my mail app still crashes
