Apple School Manager and Configurator 2

Hello all,

currently we participate on the VPP and are using Apple Configurator 2 as the management tool for all our iPads (Air 2, 32 GB). Furthermore we use an MacBook for Apple Configurator and OS X Server to cache the current iOS and all required Apps.

With the upcoming School Manager we're wondering about a "Migration path" from Configurator to School Manager. The only thing we found is, that School Manager works seamlessly together with MDM, which we are NOT using.

The questions are

- makes it sense to switch to School Manager, when we're not using MDM?

- is it possible to deploy iOS and Apps, configuration profiles etc. with School Manager?

- what about the caching function? Or do all iPads require an internet connection with School Manager for new iOS and App deployments?

- Do we have to migrate to School Manager because of policy restrictions (Configurator end of life) or can we continue using Configurator?

Any hints for a lost IT-Manager?

Thanks a lot,

bitfactory

Is this something you were ever able to figure out?  I am struggling with this myself currently.

Even some instructions from Apple would be helpful on how to manage iPads using configurator2 + ASM.
