Will no one free me of these meddlesome fonts?

Enough already!

I never use Farsi. Arabic. Chinese. Any of a number of languages, yet I have to scroll through them constantly in every app.

Hiragino Kaku? Seriously? And not one, not two, but SEVEN versions? Six of which can't be disabled or removed?

WHY? It's really, really tiresome to have a computer—which is supposed to help with repetitive tasks—force a repetitive task on the user by having to scroll through all of those fonts when I use but a few.

(And what happens if I just trash those fonts from Finder rather than using Font Book?)

Any ideas?

You can use Finder to Trash them, but be careful none are required system fonts. I'd advise moving them to a folder on your Desktop to be sure your system functions as expected without them. You may need to authenticate.
