How to connect an Apple Thunderbolt Display to ...

How do I connect my Apple Thunderbolt Display to a new MacBook Pro with Thunderbolt 3 connection?

You can use the Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter to connect your MacBook Pro (Late 2016) to these devices:

  • Apple Thunderbolt Display*
  • LG Thunderbolt-enabled Displays using the Thunderbolt input
  • Thunderbolt bus-powered devices
  • Thunderbolt self-powered devices
  • Mac computers that have Thunderbolt or Thunderbolt 2
  • Apple Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter
  • Apple Thunderbolt to FireWire Adapter**

*The Apple Thunderbolt Display doesn't provide power through this adapter to your MacBook Pro (Late 2016).

Thanks, but this doesn't solve my problem.

My Apple Thunderbolt Display has 2 wires coming out of it: One is the power cable and it connects to the wall.  The second cable splits into 2 cables and connect to the computer: One is Thunderbolt 2 and the second is MagSafe connection to the MacBk power.

How do I connect this Apple Thunderbolt Display to a new MacBook Pro with Thunderbolt 3 connecters?

Apple has not released an adapter for that power connection.

You use the original Power adapter that came with your newer MacBook Pro, and ignore the MagSafe power from the display.

Thanks.

Also the Apple Thunderbolt Display has a hub in the back which include three USB 2.0 ports, Gigabit Ethernet port, Thunderbolt port and FireWire 800 port. Will these ports work?
