Apple Watch Series 2 Microphone Not Working
Hey,
I have recently bought the Apple Watch Series 2 and I decided to go for a swim. When I got out of the water, I realized that microphone stopped working. I decided to charge it and let it dry overnight, but no luck. Should I wait longer or is there a problem?
Thanks so much,
Jonah.
Hi Jonah ..

Apple Watch Series 2
When you start a swimming workout, your Apple Watch automatically locks the screen with Water Lock to avoid accidental taps. When you're done, turn the Digital Crown to unlock the screen and clear any water from your Apple Watch. You hear sounds and may feel some water on your wrist.
To manually clear water from Apple Watch, swipe up on the bottom of the watch face to open Control Center, tap Water Lock, then turn the Digital Crown to unlock the screen and clear water from the speaker.
I would suggest making an appointment at the Genius Bar and letting them take a look at it: https://getsupport.apple.com.

Hi
Assuming that you also first dried your Apple Watch with a nonabrasive, lint-free cloth, it may help to check the following settings on your iPhone:
- Settings > General > Keyboard - check that Enable Dictation is turned on.
- Settings > General > Restrictions - check that the restriction for Siri & Dictation is not enabled.
- Settings > General > Siri - disable, pause for a few moments and then re-enable Siri.
If the issue persists, I suggest that you contact Apple Support (mail-in service may be available) or make a Genius Bar reservation with a view to to arranging for your watch to be inspected and, if recommended, serviced or replaced under warranty:
- Contact - Official Apple Support
- https://twitter.com/applesupport
Be sure not to insert anything into the microphone port or to shake your watch to remove any remaining water.

Having the exact same issue here. Took my watch for a swim 2 days ago, and I noticed today when I tried to use Siri that my mic is not working at all...
I will take it to the Apple store on Saturday and see what happens. But this doesn't look good
I'm having the same issue. One swim... microphone is not working anymore. Taking it in to the genius bar on Thursday.
I took mine to the genius bar today, they had a look at it and said that they will replace it. They did not have any pieces in stock though, so I am on the waiting list now.
It was also my first swim with the watch by the way, I guess it's a manufacturing issue
Good luck
Just checked my repair status and it says waiting for replacement. I wish they would've let me keep it until they had a replacement... kind of annoying.
1) Is this a know issue?
I'm curious to hear if this is common after swimming.
2) has anyone had their fixed or replaced yet? Has it happened again?
I used my series 2 in the pool with my 2-yr old son twice (just splashing around in waist deep water) and now the microphone doesn't work (so NO SIRI). I'm planning on returning mine if this doesn't resolve itself. I don't think I want to own one if I can't trust the claims Apple has made about its water resistance.
1- It's not really THAT common, the only place I heard or read about it is in this thread. But yes, all people explained the exact same problem; swimming --> no mic. I left mine about 4 days before actually visiting the Apple store, so no I don't think it will resolve itself.
2- Yes I got my Watch replaced about 5 days after visiting the Genius bar (check my last comment for the date), and they actually let me keep my current watch until they got the replacement unit unlike the other person that commented above. I did not try to swim with the new one yet, and I probably won't. I don't trust the water resistance anymore. But they confirmed to me that they would replace again if this happened again anyways.
My microphone has not been working now for about 5 days (since it was last in the pool). As I'm waiting for an opportunity to go to a genius bar, I had another swimming opportunity today. I figured, it's already not working, so why not at least use it in the pool anyway. Well after I got out of the pool, and ejected water from the speaker, the microphone was working again. This seems really bizarre to me. But it's working.
I have 42mm Apple Nike+ Series 2 watch and suddenly yesterday the mic stop working. I purchased this watch 11/3/16 and never have gone swimming with it on. I have rinsed it off after sweaty workouts with it on the water lock on each time. I went to the Apple Store and unpaired it and set up as new and the mic still didn't work. The disappoinning part is they have shipped it off to their repair shop in PA. I explained that I do not want a refurbished watch considering that I have only had this watch for 55 days. This is truly disappointing and it is starting to sound like their is a water resistance problem with the Series 2!
I had this issue as well and tried everything from impairing and repairing to erasing all settings and setting up the watch as new. Nothing worked.
However, when I took a can of compressed air and shot it into the openings on the side of the watch it cleared debris from the openings and, to my disbelief, the microphone immediately started working. Give this a shot, sounds like there is something that is blocking the mic or the mic is not operating correctly and needs repair.

Apple advises that compressed air should not be used when cleaning Apple Watch:
I have same issue. Mic stop working after swimming. Took me 1 week before sending back to apple and got a replacement after 2 weeks. Not i am phobia about using this apple watch series 2 for swimming. Apple need to clarify on this.
