Wired earphones for ipad what kind of plug is it

I have a year old iPad Pro And have been wondering for a long time now and searching on line for an answer to the following question: what kind of plug do I need to have for the jack on the iPad Pro. Does it have to have the extra microphone ring or is it strictly a stereo 3.5 mm plug. I have used a strait stereo jack on my old 3G phone. My 6 uses the one with the extra mic ring.

Either one will work.
