How to back up PDF files in iBooks

I am having the battery replaced in my iPad. Backup on iCloud and iTunes does not save PDFs that are in iBooks. I have quite a few. Does anyone have a suggestion for how to save them? I have an iPad Air with IOS 10.3.3.
