has a link to chat with Apple. You could try talking to them.

II also lost my cap, called apple support and they are sending me a new one
I contacted Apple Support and this is what they told me
I wanted to thank you for allowing me to gather the information about getting a replacement cap for your Apple Pencil. We do sell the cap for your pencil and the price is € 19.02 and € 4.18 for tax. You will need to call into our phone support line in order to set up the replacement securely as we would not be able to do that over chat.
for the moment I'm going to be using the lightning cable adapter, the price seems a bit steep for what is essentially a fancy piece of plastic.
I contacted Apple after searching for my cap for weeks. I explained that I had lost it and I was worried about damaging the exposed Lighting plug while carrying in my backpack. The support advisor was fantastic and shipped me a new cap, free of charge! Not only did they give me one for free, it was delivered the next day.
This may not be standard so I don't know if this is how they handle every case but without any 3rd party options, this was my only shot. I have been extra careful not to misplace the replacement (although I have no idea how I lost the first one to begin with..I am very OCD about my gear)
I got a free of charge replacement of the top cap. I am not going to complain about it. However, I did argue with them for a while.
Come on Apple, you can do a better job. I can even accept the 10 dollar plastic if I lost it. But a 8 dollar shipping fee for that tiny plastic? And I also cannot personal pick it up in the store? Do you think it's making any sense to get it for almost 20 dollar, which is 20% of the price of the whole product? The cap is maybe 5% of the weight and 0% of the technology. It is a design fail as you can see everyone complains about it.
I hope you can do better, Apple.
Interesting. I tried via chat and was told to call the Sales Support line. I spoke with two different people yesterday, including a Senior Advisor who put me on hold for over 10 minutes as she tried to find a way to get me a replacement (which I'd be happy to pay for). The end result from her after a 25 minute phone call was that they had no replacement parts and could not send me a new one. I was disappointed then, but I'm even more frustrated now, since I realize that apparently that's not the case. I really wish they would make one available for purchase.
I just purchased an Apple pencil and promptly lost the cap. The pencil comes with a one year warranty and it was super easy-peasy to contact support and get a free of charge replacement sent out with no explanation or issues.
Per Apple Chat:
Oh no xxxxxx! I can certainly see why you would contact us today. I know when I get a new piece of technology that I want to make sure I have all the working parts. I will be happy to take care and get you a replacement sent out. I have the order for the tip and cap completed for you. The order number is xxxxxxxxxx. You can check the status at xxxxxxxxxx
Glad you had that good luck. My tech put me on hold to check on the warranty thing. Came back and said that LOST didn't fall within the scope of the warranty. I mentioned these posts and said "I guess things changed. Apple must've given away too many replacement caps for free". His response with the follow-up email said "Just to clarify, nothing has changed. It was never policy to replace them free of charge." Guess it depends who you talk/chat with...
I had the same issue.
My pencil was in a loop (attached to my iPad Pro case) but somewhere between pulling it out of my bag and going upstairs to bed, the cap disappeared. I've searched the whole house but no luck. ANYWAY...
I called support and was told they had no replacement caps but I could purchase another Apple Pencil or use my Apple Care to get one.
"HUH? WHA...?!"
As mentioned by many others, it's a weak design choice and should have been better thought out. Maybe some in-person user testing would have surfaced the issue earlier. Either way, I was not satisfied with the answer I received. I immediately went to the support site and selected the online chat option. I entered my serial number and after a decent wait for an available rep, I explained the situation. A few minutes later, I was told it'd be $8.95 +tax (and way too much for shipping) and they emailed a link to pay for the "repair" and get the new caps (for that much in shipping, might as well get two!) in the mail ASAP.
So, in conclusion...
YES, it's a poor design. I'm sure Apple will fix this with the Apple Pencil 2. Have your wallet at the ready.
YES, it's confusing. If depending on how you contact them and who you talk to, you get different answers, there's a customer support problem. Never thought I'd say that in regard to Apple, but it is what it is.
And finally YES, you can get a replacement (and possibly for free, according to a few posts on here) but you have to be persistent. Never give up, never surrender!
P.S. It sounds like buying a cozy/cap band from Amazon.com is a good idea.
There is a product in third-party retail $8 PencilCozy that is
a cap that has its own tether. Other products are out there; to
include a case (sleeve) $30 PenSe by an accessory maker.
~ Seems to me that a trip to a hardware store (old school)
should be helpful to find a 'chair leg floor protector' or other
item that could be helpful, & be part of a set of four. Cheap.

A relative had the right attitude; the 'pencil' didn't write & so
it was simply tossed into a trash bin. -- Problem solved!
Apple replacement cap part number - 923-00820. About $9.00
I purchased a replacement cap from Apple for $8.
i called the support in Portugal and they say i have to buy a new pencil.. can you believe it?
There's a generic brand 4- pack ( 2-white, 1-red, and 1-blue) Apple Pencil replacement caps on Amazon
