Temporary system freezes in OS Sierra 10.12.5

Temporary system freezes in OS Sierra 10.12.5 on my Mac Pro (mid 2012)

The system freezes (simulates a crash) every  5-10 mins.... then starts again..  Haven't counted how many times in an hour. The clock stops... I can move the cursor but I can't access anything.... 

Quite disruptive to workflow.

Check the startup disk for errors ..

Startup your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys.

From there you should be able to access the built in utilities to verify and repair the disk if necessary using macOS Recovery.

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, it didn't help.  I've tried that already.... so I tried it again. Nothing was wrong with the drive...  It's almost like something is running in the background causing the machine to pause, clock to stop...

I'm having the same issue on the same system and OS, did you have find a fix for this?
