etrecheck report

my etrecheck report shows: 1) excellent: what does it mean. 2) in system launch agents many com.apple plist are running and Loaded: what is the difference and what does it mean. 3) do the running slow down the computer? 4) if they do can we stop some of them from running or loading? note! in etrecheck options i wanted "hide apple tasks unchecked". am a beginner so i don't know the right terms/language to put my question more clear. would appreciate if anyone could explain in a beginner's language! thank you

Hello rehillar,

1) Excellent means your EtreCheck report completed in 3 minutes or less. This means that you probably don't have a serious hardware or system modification problem. If your complaint is that your machine is too slow, an "excellent" performance rating means that you should focus on other areas instead.

2) "Running" is pretty obvious. It means there is a task actively running on your machine. It is normal to have about 200 Apple tasks running. "Loaded" is a bit trickier. This means that a task is queued up and ready to run at a moment's notice should the system need it. It is normal to have about 350 Apple tasks in this state.

3) A large number of healthy tasks in "running" state will not slow down your machine. Any tasks that are not healthy and are slowing down your machine will be listed in red under one or more of the "Top processes by ..." sections of your EtreCheck report.

4) It depends. Apple tasks are needed by the system. They can and do run amuck from time to time. But you shouldn't disable them because they are part of the operating system. It is better to identify what as causing the problem and fix it so they work as they should. For 3rd party software, it may be a different answer. Maybe you don't need or want the software that is running wild and it can be removed with no ill effects.

Note) I strongly suggest running EtreCheck with default settings. EtreCheck normally hides many "errors" that are expected and occur on every Mac shipped. Technically, they are errors and Apple should fix them, but that is simply not going to happen. Don't worry about them.

Unfortunately, that is as close as I can get to "beginner's language". Please feel free to ask for clarification. A modern Mac is one of the most complex computer systems ever made. There is nothing simple about it.
