Why is my disc drive in my MacBook Pro not work...

My disc drive in my MacBook Pro Laptop has suddenly stopped working. It's either a 2010 or 2011 model. I've always been able to burn discs, and I've always used the same kind of disc. It registers that I've inserted a blank CD, but it rejects the burning process. Do I need to update something? Is something damaged? Thank you so much

Based on history around here, "dirty" is more likely than "damaged." Slot-loading optical drives tend to pick up a lot of dust from the environment. The first thing to try is a drive cleaning disks. I prefer the "dry" kind--you don't have to add a cleaning fluid. Such disks are available from home electronics stores, computer shops, and office "superstores" that carry computer equipment. You can also try Amazon or similar shopping sites that sell a lot of tech gear:

Using the instructions provided, run the cleaning disk and then try a CD or DVD, preferably a commercial version, not a "burned at home" copy. You would be surprised by the number of drives that had been pronounced completely dead by an Apple tech that starting working again after running a cleaning disk.

Thank you so much Allan! I appreciate your help on this! That's a relief!
