Series 3 missing GPS data

I went on a run this morning with my Apple Watch Series 3 with LTE, and left my iPhone at home. I used the Workout app on the watch to track the run. After I ended the workout and looked at the workout info in the Health app on my phone, I noticed that the duration and distance were recorded accurately, but GPS data was only saved for the very end of the run. The two screenshots illustrate the problem: one shows the statistics for the full workout, and the other shows that only 26 seconds of GPS data was recorded, covering a very short distance.

The following steps may help:

 

  • On your iPhone, go to: Settings > Privacy > Location Services:
    • Check that Location Services (the main setting at the top) is turned on.
    • In the list of apps beneath, check that Apple Watch Workout is set to While Using.
    • If each setting is already enabled:
      • Try briefly turning off Location Services and then turning it back on again.
      • Try briefly changing the setting for Apple Watch Workout to Never and then back to While Using.
    • Also enable options under System Services including Motion Calibration & Distance, Wi-Fi Networking and Mobile Network Search.

 

 

If the issue then persists, I suggest that you contact Apple Support (remote diagnostics and mail-in service may be available, if required), make a Genius Bar reservation or visit an Apple Authorised Service Provider for assistance:
