MacBook with touch bar cannot wake up

I'm using the MacBook Pro 15' with Touch ID. But have problem when waking up from screen lock.

After locking my screen from keychain, I tab some random keys to wake it up.

But only the touch bar wakes up but the screen does not.

And also when I want to use fingerprint to unlock it, nothing happens.

I can only force to shut down my Mac with long pressing the power button.

And when it restarts, the Touch ID stored in the Mac are all lost. Then I have to reimport my fingerprint.

What a trouble. Anybody has a solution please?

Has this just happened with the new Sierra update? Some have found that typing your password in (even though the screen is black) loads the desktop.

I am now in 10.12.2. The problem also happens in 10.12.1. Have not tryed what you say. But even though it works to load the screen, some bug still exists right?

You're right, hopefully it will be fixed soon...................

Thank God, I'm not the only one having this kind of issue. :-)

I already posted the same problem with some other troubles too.

MacBook Pro 15" 2016 and 10.12.2 serious issues

Does your MBP also weak up every 2 hours?

What I've found out so far, is that this problem happens when I close the lid of the MBP. When you put it to sleep and leave the lid open, it wakes normally.

My next attempt is to test if the wake-issue occurs when there's no fingerprint saved in the Touch ID settings

Looks like we are in the same boat.. same annoying boat.

Now I just shut down the Mac at night in case that happens again.

Don't know why Apple releases such a buggy 10.12.2

Hope they can fix it in the next version.

Also a critical bug is that, when I drag files from Downloads folder in the dock to trash, the whole system is dead.

We can do nothing but wait for 10.12.3

I was having this issue as well, and I hit the 'esc' key and it jogged the screen to the login screen. My issue would occur almost exclusively when connected to my external monitor via HDMI and adapter. It usually opens to a blue screen, I hit esc and I can log in.

I had the exactly same issue--not waking up from the sleep.

I was super frustrated.... what's wrong with this MBP 2016 15inch?

I pressed the power button for a few seconds and waited for a few seconds. my MBP then woke up. This occurred 3-4 times already. (I bought it a month ago).

I have the 13" and have the same problem.  I thought it was the touchID so I turned it off but it still happens.  Frustrating because I have to kill the laptop which is never good when the filesystem is encrypted with FileVault.

I am getting into the habit of just shutting down when I move from Clam mode to normal.  Never had to do this with my 15" Retina Pro (non-touchbar).  I had to get a new laptop after a "soda" incident.  I want the new because of the new thunderbolt, but keep not wanting to wake up.

Very frustrating.  So far, 3 times in one week.  Probably related to the Sierra update but I don't know.

I have the same issue. What happens if you turn off the Power Nap feature under Energy Saver settings?

I am experiencing the same problem; screen on MBP 15" with touch bar (2016) is not waking up when lid is opened. Touch bar wakes up. In fact, I can connect an external monitor that will work, but the screen on the laptop remains black.  Laptop screen will actually flicker on and off when I disconnect/reconnect the external monitor from the USB-C port, but will return to black. This has occurred several times since I purchased this MBP in 2016 and over several OS updates. I have had to shut down the MBP in order to resolve the issue. A solution from Apple would be appreciated. Hoping this is not a hardware issue.

I'm on 10.12.6 and just experienced the issue twice in clamshell mode with DisplayPort. Next time I'll try to type in the password (Apple Watch and Touch ID both work to unlock but without screen back to work).
