Do IOS Devices still Charge When Physically Swiped Off?

I have an issue with the battery on an iPod Touch 5th Gen. that I bought used.  Simply put, it is discharging too quickly. For the last two days I have been letting it play music at 3/4 volume level into a pair of headphones in a drawer, and it seems like it discharges withing 4-8 hours.  Then I charge it until I get "Battery Charged 100%" indication below time of day.  You could say I'm trying to 'train' the battery to last longer between chargings.

Conditions: Wifi = On, Blue Tooth = Off.  Only app running is Music itself.

I cannot find a satisfactory answer to my question on the internet at large, regarding whether or not iOS devices still receive a charge when turned completely off, and not just Stand-by.

You are battling against a battery that is pretty old and has been through hundreds of charge cycles. The only way to get more life with the device is to replace the battery. Make an appointment at the Apple Genius Bar for service. If you need to find an Apple Store - Find a Store - Apple.

To answer your question, yes. iOS devices will still charge when turned completely off. Otherwise they would never come back on if they were to be completely discharged and couldn't charge while they were off.

Note that if you turn a device off and plug it in to charge it will turn back on.

If you plug it in first and then turn it off, it will stay off, but still charge.

You can't train a battery to last longer between charges anymore than you you can train water to boil at 90 degrees rather than 100. Rechargeable batteries lose capacity over time; it's chemistry. As Kappy says, it's time to replace the battery.
