double tap mouse not working

Hi there,

I'm on Sierra 10.12.6 and I've just started to use my Mac mouse again after an interval of a year or more.

I've got everything set up I think, except for a couple of things which I'm sure used to work but don't now.

The options that don't work now are;

  1. The 2 finger double tap (not double click) that would activate the 'right click menu'. I'm sure this was working before. If I 2 finger double tap, I get the mission control which I don't want. If I disable that, the double tap has no effect.
  2. The single finger double tap (again, not click) where I could select a word does nothing. The 1 finger double click however, does highlight the word but I want the double tap to work.

I've checked my settings several times and all looks ok.

Any ideas please...

Many thanks in advance, Maz

1. It is a single right-click to activate the contextual menu.

2. The one finger double-click is right to highlight a word.

There is no 2-finger double tap that I know of, only a one finger double tap which activates Mission Control.

These are the only options:

So it seems your mouse is working as expected.

Do an SMC reset per the details here ....

Hi there,

Thanks for your reply. Sorry yes, in my original post, I meant a single right click on the mouse.... But what I really want is to tap and not to click...

The reason why I want the tap is that an old relative uses my computer and tapping is much easier... When clicking, the whole mouse device moves slightly and so the control is not as accurate. Mouse taps are far more easier and accurate.

With regards to the SMC reset Seventy One, by doing this, will it allow the mouse to register finger tapping?

Many thanks, Maz

It should return the machine to the previous situation when your click process worked.    But clearly this depends on your memory though at worst you will be no worse off.   All that willhappen is that a few settings, things like fonts, may need to be reset.   Your files and data will remain as was.

I don't believe the mouse ever had the functionality you're looking for. Perhaps you had an add-on application?
