iCloud Desktop not syncing

I have iCloud Drive desktop/documents syncing turned on and have been loving it for the last week I've been using it... until today. I see my desktop files on my iPad iCloud desktop folder (the same ones on my work computer desktop), but my home iMac isn't syncing anymore, and there seems no way to force it to update. I've restarted, and I assume the next step is to turn off/on desktop/documents folder syncing in Prefs>iCloud but hope I don't have to. It's only been a week of using this feature, and hope this isn't a thing you have to do all the time to make sure it "just works."

Does it show any activity (stalled or otherwise)

Nope, no activity - no status wheel indicator in the sidebar of finder windows, nothing.

Try turning syncing off, wait a couple of minutes, and then turn it back on.

My instance does show stalling in the sense that the "harvey ball" showing how much left there is to sync / download has stalled at 99.9%. Any idea on how to force closure on that?

will that solve my desktops not syncing with each other?
