Cannot download El Capitan

Hi. I just installed a new SSHD in my Early 2008 iMac and partitioned the drive with the original install disks (Snow Leopard). I had been running Mavericks before the new drive was installed. I'm now trying to update to El Cap with the intention of moving up to Sierra if possible. I've gotten to the El Cap page on the App Store and can't get further. I click on "get" and nothing happens. No download option exists. Does anyone have ideas of how I can get El Cap into this machine? Trying to get this done so I can give the machine to my Mother who is running on a VERY old machine.

This is turning into quite the ordeal, can I ask you to restart your Mac and try the download again, its a long shot but simple.
