Apple Music app crashing on iOS 9.3.2

Apple Music constantly keeps on crashing on my iPhone 5c running iOS 9.3.2. what can i do to make it not crash anymore?

Hello there kidflash266,

It sounds like you are unable to use your Music app because it keeps closing on you unexpectedly. I would start by quitting the Music app:

Force an app to close in iOS

1. Press the Home button two times quickly. You'll see small previews of your recently used apps.
2. Swipe left to find the app you want to close.
3. Swipe up on the app's preview to close it.

When you have done that restart the phone and test the issue again:

iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting

If the issue persists, I would next turn off Apple Music and see if the issue persists after that:

Go to Settings > Music...

  • Show Apple Music: Apple Music members can show or hide Apple Music content. To hide the For You and New buttons, turn off Show Apple Music.

From: Music settings

If it works, then turn Show Apple Music back on and test the issue again to make sure it keeps working.  It very well may be the case that the Apple Music data needed to be refreshed.

If the issue still persists and you have iCloud Music Library enabled, then next I would suggest turning off that feature as well and testing again. Please do note that doing so will remove Apple Music content that you downloaded or added to your library from your phone. Don't worry the music will remain in your "My Music" when you re-enable iCloud Music Library, but you will have to save it again for offline listening:

Go to Settings > Music...

  • iCloud Music Library: With this option off, all Apple Music content is removed from iPhone. Music you purchased or synced, and music identified by iTunes Match that you added for offline play remains.

From: Music settings

Then quit the Music app one more time, and restart again as I outlined above, and test how it works with this disabled. If it works, then re-enable iCloud Music Library and test it out again.

If you do not use iCloud Music Library, try removing and re-syncing the music data from your phone that came from your iTunes library.

1. Uncheck the checkbox in iTunes as stated in step three in the following article:

iTunes 12 for Mac: Sync iPod, iPhone, or iPad

2. Click Apply in the lower right hand corner. This will remove the songs from your phone.

3. Restart the phone using the article I posted above.

4. Go back and put the check in the checkbox from step 3 in the same article from step 1. This will copy your music back to your phone with the same selections you had before.

iTunes 12 for Mac: Sync iPod, iPhone, or iPad

5. Test out Music again.

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities, take care!

Still having this problem after following steps provided.

I Have the same problem...

I'm having the same issue and I tried the items above: the app will load, but once I go My Music, then switch from Library to Playlist, the app immediately closes. I just upgraded to Apple Music, but I can't even use the app on my iPhone. I can't click any song or artist without the app closing...

I'm still having this probelm after all of the steps provided.

I have 5c, did the update, it was working fine yesterday, today the app will not stay open. Please help!

I solved this problem. do the following:

go to Settings>Music>Join Apple Music, and launch Music app by this. Then, inside the launched Music app, sign out your account. Then restart the Music app normally. It worked for me. then you can sign back in to the Music normally.

Thanks very much, this fixed it for me after updating by iPhone 4S (don't laugh!) to iOS 9.3.4. earlier this week.

I had previously found another post advising how to access Music by going to Settings>Music>Join Apple Music, and launch Music app that way, but that was just a workaround. By following your extra step of signing out of my account from inside the launched Music app and then restarting the Music app, I was then able to launch the Music app by tapping the Music icon.

Thanks again.

Jon.

Awesome! Thanks for the fix!

Hi kidflash266, I had the same problem with the same iOS and same iphone model... this is fixed for me just doing this: close totally Apple Music, Turn off Wifi connection and starts again Apple Music.

I don't know why but that solved my problem.

This fixed it for me temporarily, but then a day or so later, it started happening again. I followed the directions you provided, again, and it fixed it. Hoping it will stay cooperative.

Had this issue this morning on an iPad 3. Constant crashes in Apple Music App. Also, slow performance in general. I Erased all settings and Content and reconfigured the iPad from scratch to resolve the issue. This iPad only has 4 apps small apps installed, and does not have a photo library or photostream. It's used as a kiosk. I was pleasantly surprised to see 11/16gb free after the four apps were reinstalled. Before the reset, the iPad had less than 1gb free!

A full reset may sound like a 'sledge hammer to crack a nut'. However, the reset procedure was pretty fast and setup takes 5-10 mins, providing you can remember all of your passwords for iCloud and email etc. There appears to be addition benefit of a reset! Performance and free space is greatly improved.

Still having this problem and am becoming extremely frustrated. BTW, I'm experiencing the issue on my iPad mini 1st generation, iOS 9.3.2

I have an extensive library and have created many playlists (and spent way too much time doing so). The only time the app crashes is when I go to Playlist. Do you have any additional suggestions?

I would like to try your solution but under Settings>Music the Join Apple Music option is not showing as an option on my iPad mini. The only option similar is Show Apple Music. Do you know of another way to launch the Music app in Settings?
