Mail Sends Unexpectedly While Composing

Model Name: MacBook Pro

Model Identifier: MacBookPro13,2

Processor Name: Intel Core i7

Processor Speed: 3.3 GHz

System Version: macOS 10.12.1 (16B2657)

Kernel Version: Darwin 16.1.0

Boot Volume: Macintosh HD

Boot Mode: Normal

Regarding a 3-week old MacBook Pro with new task bar. The native Mac Mail client often, but not always, sends mail prematurely, while I am composing.

This is a very bad bug and makes the product unusable.

Details: I will be typing in compose mode. The compose window closes for no reason and the message moves to the outbox and shortly after, gets sent.

I have take all accounts offline for safety while I am composing. Even then the compose window closes and the message moves to outbox, but at least I can rescue it and continue editing.

I rebuilt my profile, re-created my mail accounts and it still happens.

Am I the only sufferer?

Are you sure you're not accidentally hitting the send button at the left end of the Touch Bar? I find that the Touch Bar takes a little getting used to in order not to touch it while typing on the keyboard, especially when entering numbers.

To remove the send button from the touch bar:

  • Go into the Mail app
  • Create a new empty mail message
  • From the menu bar select View > Customize Touch Bar
  • Using the trackpad, move the pointer down into the touch bar and drag the send button up onto the screen and off the touch bar to remove it.

I am not touching the bar, but your point raises a question.

I feel that the new trackpad is "jumpy", sometimes registering

clicks that I don't think I initiate. I looked for a setting to reduce the click sensitivity ( I have tap to click set and "firm") chosen. But hardware might be looked at as a cause for unexpected mail send while composing. I just don't see the pattern yet.

I will also do as you suggest and customize the bar. Thanks!

Well, I tried to remove send button form touch bar. Seems cannot. It is locked in the default set.

OK. Done.

Removed the send virtual button by dragging it on the touch bar itself to the extreme left.

Let's see if the unwanted " send" behavior stops. Thank you!

Learned that (as you explained) you can use the trackpad to move the cursor below the LCD onto the touchbar to manipulate and customize. Surprise!

I have been tracking the same issue along with unusual intermittent response from my Apple Mouse. It appears to be linked to my left hand resting on the left side portion of the computer and creating a type of "interference"

I know it sounds strange but try observing this when you type. If you can avoid touching the left speaker or side of the computer while typing, or while using a mouse, if you use one, the issue will not occur.

I'm trying to isolate the issue until it is 100% repeatable with a set of actions before taking it to Apple for a solution.

I kept touching the touch bar too follow these steps to remove it from the touch bar.

  1. Open Apple Mail
  2. Open a new message on Apple Mail
  3. On the top toolbar click “View”
  4. Select “Customize Touch Bar”
  5. Drag the send icon off the touch bar

This continues to happen to me, too. I tried the "customize" toolbar in mail to remove the send button. When I did that I didn't even see a send button. This issue has forced me to respond and compose emails in notepad or by first removing the email addresses and then pasting them back in afterward.

I find this experience unacceptable. Most of the time I actually dock my MacBook Pro and use an external keyboard and mouse. If anyone (or, gosh, if Apple) finds a fix, kindly share it.

This is what i experience too. The left palm of the hand seems to send off the mail somehow via the trackpad- not the touch bar. That is very annoying when composing business mails that are not ready to send or incomplete.

I have all the same problems as listed above ... all seems left hand driven ...

Its removed off my touch bar and continues to occur.. I have already had to apologize over a dozen times for premature sent business emails

Has anyone found a fix???!!!

Please advise
