iCloud messes up access to mail accounts, what ...

Hello, I have a problem with iCloud.

I use several email accounts (private, work) and by accident I let iCloud use one of my mail-accounts. The problem is that I can't access that mailaccount anymore, somehow the password is changed.

I don't understand how iCloud works exactly and as a result it messes up my mail settings on all apple devices.

I can access my account via webmail, via the account provider, but Apple mail doesn't accept the changes (is it because iCloud overrides everything?)

As I have several Apple devices - my mail isn't working anymore on any of those devices. iCloud drives me insane.

Is it possible to remove iCloud from all of my apple devices and use every device as a 'stand alone'? Or should I create a new mail account especially for iCloud so that it doesn't mess up the mail accounts I need to use for mail?

All my important data are already synchronized via other cloud services, I use iMap so all my email is save as well.

Thanks for your help

macOS sierra 10.12.6

If this mail account you're referring to is a third-party application, you may have to use an app-specific password -- Using app-specific passwords - Apple Support.

What does "I let iCloud use one of mail accounts" actually mean.

You don't have to sync with iCloud.

Have you tried deleting the messed up account and then set it up again?

Did you set it up as an iCloud e-mail address? How does iCloud use the mail account?

Thanks for your interest: Normally I ignore iCloud but I bought a new computer and this time I wasn't that alert.

When installing - I gave iCloud one of my email addresses, but now iCloud seems to 'take over' that email account information. My password for that email address doesn't work anymore on my other Apple devices. I can now only access my email account via webmail and via my Samsung smart phone. Deleting the email accounts from my apple devices doesn't work -because every time I try to add the mail account again, iCloud tells me that the account already exists. I would like to delete iCloud from my devices, but I can only deactivate it - but even deactivated - iCloud wakes up when I try to use my mail account again (and then it tells me that that mail account already exists, but it doesn't let me access it).

It is driving me insane... How do I get everything out of iClouds system and how can I work with Apple without activating iCloud?
