backup and restore ios 9

I want to ask about why my music did not restore to a new iPhone 6S. I asked it to back up onto Computer which is running Sierra and up to date iTunes. The old iPhone had a smashed screen.

When I came to restore onto new iPhone 6S I found it had backed up onto iCloud instead and when I restored, it didn't restore the music.  It had a load of music I've never heard of.  All my music  on the original iPhone was selected from my larger collection on my Mac.  All of it came from either CDs or copies of vinyl.  Nothing came from iTunes store.  Can I restore the music I had originally on my phone or do I have to go back to iTunes on the Mac and do the selection all over again?  I do not want to do a full restore, only the iTunes.
